This 20-hour trauma-informed training covers the fundamentals of healing and regulating the nervous system through somatic practices. Participants will gain understanding of the brain-body connection, the effects of nervous system dysregulation on behavior, and strategies for seamlessly integrating these practices into everyday life
Trauma affects everyone, regardless of occupation or background. Whether you’re a yoga teacher, educator, therapist, social worker, service provider, caregiver, or someone that is curious about well- being, there is something to take away for all of us.
Understanding the neuroscience of somatic practices is invaluable for understanding behavior, learning, and connection for ourselves and others . Recognizing the body’s role in trauma coping and recovery is crucial.
Going through trauma is not rare. 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. That’s 223.4 million people. Unresolved trauma can lead to anxiety, depression, addiction, stress, and other health issues.
Data shows that somatic practices are a contributor to healing after trauma (often more impactful than talk therapy alone) and at creating resilience in the body and mind.
Some key components of this trauma-informed training related to the body include:
1. Understanding the connection between trauma and the body, including the impact of stress and trauma on the nervous system and the body’s physiological response to trauma.
2. Recognizing signs of trauma-related distress in the body, such as hyperarousal, dissociation, and somatization (physical symptoms that have no medical explanation).
3. Creating a physically safe and comfortable environment that supports need for sensory input and regulation.
You’ll divide your time between lectures, practical exercises, and peer-led sessions. By the end, you’ll have a solid grasp of the mind-body connection and tools to start incorporating somatic practices into both your professional and personal life immediately. We’ll delve into personal and systemic trauma, addressing the impact on various social challenges we encounter daily.
