Dr. Yasmin V. Barrios, is an Epidemiologist by training and earned her doctorate from the Department of Epidemiology at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. She earned her MPH from the University of Washington in 2008, with a focus on community-oriented public health practice. Her research has focused on exposure to intimate partner violence and childhood abuse and their association with mental health outcomes, specifically depression and anxiety, among pregnant populations. oversaw two large pregnancy cohort studies in Latin America. She was served as the Co-Chair of the Gender Based Violence Research Group, a student-led UNC research group focused on addressing gender based violence in practice and research while a student.
Currently she works in applied epidemiology in COVID19 surveillance and teaches at the university level. She received her 200-hour yoga training certification in 2021 and supports research efforts in evaluating The Namaste Project’s work with educators.
