Trauma-Informed Yoga: YTT Module TNP Wellness 200-Hour YAECP® Teacher Training

Most Yoga Teachers Were Never Trained for This

Trauma shows up in yoga classes every day — in the student who can’t close their eyes, the one who leaves during savasana, the one who freezes when you offer an adjustment. Most teachers see it and don’t know what to do. That’s not a character flaw. It’s a training gap.

As a teacher, you may find yourself:

  • Unsure how to use language that invites rather than directs — and why that distinction matters for trauma survivors
  • Hesitant to offer hands-on assists or modifications without knowing what’s truly safe
  • Unprepared to hold space when a student has a trauma response in class
  • Building sequences from habit rather than nervous system intention
  • Lacking the clinical framework to understand what’s actually happening in a triggered body

Without trauma-informed training, even a well-sequenced class can leave the students who need yoga most feeling unsafe.

What You’ll Learn in This Module

Led by Deana Panza, MS, LPC, RYT — Licensed Professional Counselor, 200-Hour Yoga Teacher, and Trauma-Informed Yoga Educator trained with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk — this module gives you the clinical grounding and practical tools to teach yoga that genuinely supports healing, regulation, and empowerment.

You’ll learn:

  • Trauma & the nervous system — how adverse experiences live in the body and what that means for your teaching
  • Trauma-sensitive yoga practices — vinyasa and restorative applications designed for safety and regulation
  • Creating safe & inclusive spaces — the environmental, relational, and linguistic elements that make a class truly trauma-informed
  • Adapting yoga for diverse experiences & bodies — meeting students where they are, not where a pose says they should be
  • Nervous system regulation techniques — practical somatic tools you can integrate into any class or session
  • Integrating trauma-informed principles in any setting — schools, studios, clinical spaces, community programs
